Are you a busy mom looking to be strengthened spiritually? If you have little ones in need of your attention 24/7, it can feel impossible to get the quiet time you need with God.
From the moment we wake up from the moment our head hits the pillow, we are on call. It’s difficult to find time alone to shower, let alone spend in daily devotional time, prayer and bible study.
But we desparately need time with Jesus to de-stress, lift our burdens, and rejuvenate our spirits so we can be spiritually strong for our families and loved ones.
Is devotional time really so impossible to find? In this post, you’ll find 10 ways to be creative in your quiet times so you can access God’s strength daily!
The alarm goes off. I hit snooze once. Text my husband to bring coffee to me upstairs, because I am NOT a morning person (like him). It takes me about 15 minutes to slowly ease into my day. I reach for my phone and social media out of habit – then, the guilt.
I should be doing my quiet time with God right now, instead of surfing on my phone. This is prime time, before the kids wake up. But, if I’m being honest, sometimes it seems overwhelming and I just keep scrolling through Facebook.
Can you relate? Bible study for Christian women is so important, but at times difficult to practice regularly. Maybe it’s because we are stretched thin, exhausted, and it’s an easy thing to let slip from our schedule.
But here’s the truth: the busier we are, the more we need God to hold us up.
Less time, but a greater need for our Savior. So, what’s the solution?
The fix is to get creative. Growing in faith doesn’t mean you need to spend an hour of your day in complete silence. There are lots of ways you can foster spiritual growth as a busy mom while going about your daily life and finding small moments to focus on God.
10 Spiritual Growth Ideas for Busy Moms
Grab a cup of tea and let’s discover some practical ideas for growing spiritually as a Christian with very little time. It’s totally doable!
Find your power hour
A major key to spiritual growth as a Christian woman is studying when you’re at your best. Not a morning person? Try squeezing a few minutes of study into afternoon nap time, or right before bed.
Make it happen when you are feeling your best (and least stressed). You’ll be able to focus better and retain more of what you’re studying.
I remember a time when I felt pressured to get up super early and do my “morning quiet time” because that’s what I thought I was supposed to do. Or maybe I thought that’s what the most spiritual people do.
Anyway, whenever I tried it, I was too groggy to pay attention to what I was reading, let alone formulate a coherent prayer! That’s when I decided it didn’t matter what time I chose for my quiet time – it simply mattered that it got done, period.
When we try to do everything perfectly, it often means we don’t do anything at all. If you don’t have much time or mental clarity to do a long study, 5 minutes is better than nothing! Everything you do for spiritual growth is beneficial as a Christian woman.
During my high school years, I always did my prayer journaling and Bible reading right before bed. It worked great for me, because I was mentally alert, and found that my emotions were more open during that time.
I loved writing about whatever was on my heart that day, and reading God’s words before I fell asleep was calming and relaxing for me. Now, I tend to study in the late morning or afternoon, when I have a few moments of quiet.
The idea is, schedule your study and prayer time whenever is best for you. Maybe you’re bright-eyed and bushy-tailed early in the morning. Go for it (and I envy you)! When you find your personal power hour, your Bible study will be more beneficial and your prayers more heartfelt.
Listen to the Word
I’m more of a visual learner, so I prefer reading. But, if you’re auditory, you’ll love listening to the Bible as you go about your day. An especially good time to do this is in the car – you get into that trance/meditative state while driving, but listening to the Bible is a perfect way to focus!
Even if you don’t have time to sit down and read, everybody has time to listen while they do everyday tasks. It’s amazing how doing this transforms your mindset, and sometimes you’ll notice things while listening that you would have skimmed over reading.
You can listen via the BibleGateway mobile app, or check out bible.is . Such a great asset for Christian women!
Make use of Christian podcasts
Podcasts can be a great asset to for the Christian woman, because they allow spiritual nourishment wherever you are: at home or on-the-go.
You can listen to Christian teaching while doing the dishes, vacuuming, or driving in the car. This is a great way to keep your mind occupied while doing mundane tasks, and puts those minutes to good use. They definitely add up!
You’ll find that you have a better attitude toward your family throughout the day when you set your mind on things above.
One podcast I am loving right now is Wifey Wednesdays – it’s for women only and is all about how to strengthen our marriages God’s way. Another great one to try is Arrows in Our Hand, which encourages parents to raise Godly children. Here’s an episode all about Bible study for parents, so you can get even more ideas on this topic. Actually, everything from The Light Network is highly recommended!

Songs of praise
One of my favorite things to do is listen to songs of praise while I work. It is so encouraging and uplifting, and adds a layer of learning that you don’t get with typical music or radio. Every once in a while I get emotional while listening to these beautiful songs – many times the truths in them speak to my heart and convict me of something I need to change.
My favorites include Zoe Group and Acapella. Take a moment and listen to the song below, which is my current favorite – “Lord, You are Greater Than My Heart.”
Pray at random intervals
Similar to the ideas above, just as you can use mundane moments for bible study, you can also use them for prayer. Pray while you are standing in checkout line, sitting in car line, or folding laundry.
Tell God whatever is on your heart – the more detail, the better. Don’t forget to utter prayers of thanksgiving for the good things throughout your day. What a great way to practice gratitude!

Study with your husband
Just yesterday, my husband expressed an idea that we should start studying together. He just got back from a mission trip in Belize, where he would sit for hours and study with the men in the church there, who are eager to hear the Word.
He found himself thinking, “I wish I had someone I could study with like this at home…” Then, thankfully, he realized he has me!
It’s easy for us as wives to fall into the same line of thinking if we don’t have a lot of friends to discuss spiritual things with. Instead of feeling isolated, see if your husband is interested in studying the bible with you on a regular basis. What better support or accountability system could there be?

Memorize small verses
Nothing helps more in times of trial and difficulty than having verses memorized. There have been times when I didn’t even feel like reading my Bible, but because I had lots of verses embedded in my heart, God’s Word stayed with me.
You probably already have quite a few verses memorized (songs are great for this), but it’s always a good idea to add more to your list!
There’s a really cool app called Verses that helps you in your quest to memorize God’s Word. It has lots of fun ways to learn – fill in blank, sentence scramble, and other memory games. This a great thing to do when you are in line or waiting for something (water boiling, anyone?).
Post Scriptures around the house
Similar to the idea above, posting bible verses around your house is a great way to bolster your faith as a Christian woman. Every time you see your Scripture, take a moment to think about it and ways you can exhibit that trait in your life.
A friend of mine had several little notecards posted around her home, and I thought it was a very sweet idea. I remember one of them in her handwriting which said, “A wise woman builds her house, but a foolish woman tears it down with her hands.” That always stuck with me.
You can handwrite verses and post them in high-traffic areas (your fridge, bathroom mirror, car) where you will see them often. Change out the verses each week for extra encouragement.
Another great idea is getting beautiful printables or Scripture art to frame throughout your home, like these gorgeous printables. Lovely and faith-building!
Use Bible study tools
There are so many resources you can use to make daily devotional time easier as a Christian woman. There are tons of Bible reading plans you can download on your device to make study time easier.

Attend a Bible study conference
One fantastic way to rekindle a fire of bible study for Christian women is to attend a Bible conference or retreat. This is sure to give you new ideas for bible study as well as renew your spirit. Sometimes we just need to get away and hit the “reset” button in our spiritual lives.
I highly recommend attending Polishing the Pulpit – its a perfect place for spiritual renewal, and let me tell you, they dig DEEP in the word of God. There are dozens of classes for every age group – men, women, teens, and children. You can register here.
