Tired of turmoil dragging you down? Be comforted and uplifted with these 48 bible verses about peace to help quiet your soul.
We can all use a little peace in 2021, am I right?!
Not a surface-y, “I feel semi-calm and composed” type of peace. I’m talking a soul deep stillness coupled with genuine contentment. The kind where you know God is with you, and that you are living out His purpose and plan for you.
It’s not typical for me to choose a “word of the year” at each New Year. But for some reason, this year the word PEACE keeps coming to mind. Because without true peace, I can’t fully relish this life I’ve been given — much less help anyone else.
If you feel that aching need for God’s peace too, keep reading.
What is true peace from God?
God cannot give us happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.
– C.S. Lewis
Thankfully, our peace isn’t reliant on outward circumstances. It comes from another place entirely: Jesus himself.
After all, Ephesians 2:14 says, “For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.”
Jesus is the only one who grants us true peace, and without Him, we cannot access this perfect peace.
How can I receive peace from God?
The first step is making sure you are a child of God, that you know God and that you are known by Him. Meditate on this quote from Croft Pentz: “No God, no peace. Know God, know peace.”
The first step to knowing God (and therefore peace) is reading His Word and recognizing that He loves you, you have sinned, and you need His forgiveness.
And, you need to receive God’s gift of peace and forgiveness through salvation. Acts 4:12 says, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

What is the definition of peace in the Bible?
Our modern day understanding of peace is defined as “freedom from disturbance; tranquility.”
However, the understanding of peace in the Bible different. It is a spiritual calm in one’s soul that transcends earthly circumstances, thanks to the constant presence of God for the true believer.
I love the lyrics of the old hymn Peace, Perfect Peace which encapsulate this idea so well.
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.
Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus—this is rest.
Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus’ bosom naught but calm is found.
Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.
Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.
